Buy with purpose
How to stop buying random self-care products
A product deserves shelf space only when you can explain the job it will do and when you will use it.
Use the four-question buying filter
What role does it fill?
Name one role: cleanse, polish, moisturize, scent, or reset. “It looked good online” is not a role.
When will I use it?
Connect the product to a real morning, shower, evening, or weekly routine.
What does it replace?
If it duplicates a product you already enjoy, finish the current product first.
Does it fit the budget?
Consider the full price, frequency of replacement, shipping, and whether a simpler option already works.
Create a waiting list—not an instant cart
Save interesting products for seven days. During that week, notice whether the same problem appears repeatedly. If it does not, the product may have been an impulse rather than a need.
Keep a finish-before-buying list
Write down products already open in each role. A visible list reduces forgotten duplicates and makes the next replacement decision easier.
